Kira's Missing, part 3
Robi and I searched the family history books for hours.
"Robi, I think I found something!" I held out a dusty scrapbook to him, my hand on the page where I found mention of Eileen.
"Eileen Forbes Lam was my great-grandmother. Apparently there was some controversy when she was younger. Her father died in the cemetary out back and apparently the police blamed the family for a while. Then Eileen was attacked a week later. It was then discovered that someone named Dagmar Bertino had killed him. It was in all the papers."
Robi took the book from me and read the newspaper reports someone had pasted onto the pages.
"Do you think this is what all this is about? Where is this Dagmar Bertino now?"
"I'm not sure. I wonder if there is more mentioned about her?" I took the book from Robi and continued flipping through the pages.
"Here is an account of her trial. Apparently it was televised and everything. It was a really big deal. Okay, here it is. Apparently she was convicted."
"So, to find Kira we need to find out what happened to Dagmar Bertino. She could be out of jail by now, it's been long enough."
Suddenly, something hit me out of the blue. Kira's friend, the one she called Auntie Dag!
"Robi, remember Kira mentioning a friend, the one we thought was imaginary?"
"Kind of, why?"
"I think her friend is real. She called her 'Auntie Dag'. I think her friend is Dagmar Bertino!" I jumped up from the attic floor, ready to leave the house and get my daughter.
"But we don't know where she is, Lorelai. She could be in jail, she could be dead by now. It has been a long time."
"But you know that some scientists have discovered a youth potion, right? It can prolong life for however long the person drinking it wants! It can eventually poison a person, but some people have taken it for years! What if Dagmar is drinking this stuff and has been harboring a grudge for all this time." I just knew my theory was correct.
"Lor, I think we need to call the police and share this information with them. They will at least know where Dagmar Bertino is, if she is still around."
I sighed, knowing my husband was right, but still fearing for my little girl's life.
"You're right, Robi. It's time to call the police."
